Wow. I can see by the date on my previous blog that it’s been a while since I’ve updated the site! I promised myself and Jimmy Bones this wouldn’t happen. An update is in serious order here.
Earlier in the month Extra.Ordinary. screened at the Banff Mountain Films Festival’s Radical Reel show for a crowd of over 1200! We took runner-up honors in the Peoples Choice Clap off. According the “Clap-o-Meter” we were a close second to Bjorn Enga (Kranked) and his mountain bike film Revolve. All you hardcore bike nuts probably know of Bjorn and his killer movies. It was a great experience to be part of such prestigious festival and inspiring to see so many great mountain culture films.
Extra.Ordinary has been chosen to be part of the The Banff Mountain Film Festival’s world tour. A short festival cut of the film will screen as part of the Radical Reels Tour. Keep your eyes and ears open for locations and dates. Get all the info on the Banff Mountain Film Festival’s world tour here
As I write this the Film is screening at the Kendall Mountain Film Festival in England. Due to the recent flooding in the Midlands of England Kendall is semi-submerged, but reports say the festival went ahead and is unaffected by the floods which is great news!
Extra.Ordinary. was also recently picked up by the Stowe Mountain Film in Vermont. We are stoked to be a last minute addition to the East Coast event. And even more stoked to be screening alongside the Sweetgrass Production’s awesome flick Signatures.

The official world premiere of Extra.Ordinary. went down at the Vogue Theatre in Fernie BC last Thursday ( Oct.15.) Joel and I want to thank everyone that came out. Once again, the people of Fernie demonstrated why they are craziest cats on the planet. The stoked was through the roof. No one got injured and the after party Bulldogs was a certified GONGSHOW. Kyle Hudon is a legend. A big thanks to the folks at the Vogue for staying calm when the onslaught happened, for letting us pack the place to the brim. A big hug to Adam Laurin for MC-ing and killing it.
What’s next? We just recieved confirmation that Extra.Ordinary. will screen on November, 3rd at 9:20 pm at the Eric Harvey Theatre in Banff, AB. There’s something like 950 seats there, so if you missed Fernie and your in Cowtown, come over to Banff and help us fill a few of those seats!
If your in Jolly ole’ England, stay tuned for the Kendall Mountain Film Festival screening times.
You can pick a copy up here on the site. The DVD is also available at Commit Snow and Skate, Edge of the World and Straight Line in Fernie, BC. We are hoping Chikko in Calgary will be on board soon. Calgarians stay tuned.
You could also call Joel and he’ll personally deliver a copy and maybe even do your christmas lights for you!
Our latest feature shred production, Extra.Ordinary., was chosen as a finalist in two high profile film festivals recently, the Banff Mountain Film Festival in Banff, Alberta and the Kendall Mountain Film Festival in England.
We are super stoked about getting picked. It makes the coffee stained mind, and self inflicted wounds sustained over a ridiculous summer spent editing and producing the film, that much more meaningful.
Stay tuned for exact screening dates and times. I can tell you for sure that the Banff Mountain Film Festival goes from November . The Kendall Mountain Film Festival runs from November 19th -22nd.

I recently printed some black and white film that had been in my SLR for just under two years. Yep 36 photos in two years. I feel sorry for the camera I once used on a daily basis. Truth is, film is expensive and I don’t have access to a dark room any more to do my own printing. Getting a roll like this back sure makes me wish I did. I’ve called the blog post ” My Inspiration” because the people in these photos are who I live for everyday. They give me the strength and the passion to make the most of every minute of everyday. Sakura’s second birthday is just around the corner and as I look at the these photos that span her entire life to date I can’t help but both smile and cry. Life is happening faster then you realize. Make the most of it. Enjoy every moment.
In March 2008 Island Lake Lodge in Fernie, BC held it’s first annual Photo Shoot-out. I was there and produced a follow up webcast of the event. I had the opportunity to follow one of the teams around and ski awesome spring snow myself. I even got in on some photo ops myself!
The team I shot over two days ended up winning the competition. The team included; Photographer Dave Silver and Athletes Thommy Westcott, Mark Butcher and Mac Williams. Dave Silver took some great shots and I’ve featured my favorites
in a gallery below.
Check out the Shoot-out video here.

A big thanks to Joel Whalen for shooting with the other groups during the event capturing some great footy for the video!
I was going through tapes from the last couple of years hunting for footage of my darling Sakura and what should I come? Absolutely ridiculous material from the 2008 Fernie Demolition Derby. What a gongshow! Pretty much the greasiest most disgusting display of smalltown madness. I love it and am so inspired I intend to cut a short of the day’s debauchery to post on the site within a couple days. Heck, this might be so fun I’ll have it done by tomorrow morning. If you were at the derby last year chances are you’ll be in this…..Mangled out of your tree. Stayed tuned for this one, it’ll be a doosie!
When I moved to Fernie, BC in 2002 I had no plans to make it my home and certainly no idea I would one day meet my wife and raise children there ( Yep, Children! There is another on the way in March! )
7 years on I am still there, well kind of, I’m on a brief hiatus in Ontario to get some schooling done, but consider the family to be away from “Home”. I miss Fernie a lot these days. It’s that time of year. As the demolition derby approaches people start talking about the coming of winter. The stoke starts to build and everyone gets a little giddy. Nevermind that winter is still more then 90 sleeps away, the countdown begins. However, If you spend your summers in Fernie you know it’s really the time to be in town!
Before leaving town in the spring I cut a little tribute to my friends and family in the town I call home and entitled it just that. “Home”. It’s been on the site for awhile now, but I thought it time to feature it and write some words about my favourite place. I also scanned a couple of old prints. They aren’t amazing photos, just some that brought back some great memories for me.
Enjoy!
