I’m pretty sure Fernie Alpine Resort has just held it’s annual Full Throttle mountain bike event. It was around this time last year the first annual Full Throttle went down. I wish I’d been around this year. Unfortunately I’m Ontario bound for the time being. Luckily I was able to watch the highlight videos I cut of the 2008 event and reminisce about the Gnar!
You can too!
There are two videos. One was a same day cut of the Downhill highlight reel which was shown post race. It was meant to be a pre-roll to the video competition that was being held. Thanks to my wizardry with DVD burning though it ended up being the post-roll. The other cut is a post event wrap-up which has footage from the downhill, dual slalom and even some action the endurance race. If you missed them last summer, check them out here. If you saw them last summer no doubt you want to watch them again.
Here are the links to both.
Enjoy!

The working cover.
So, after nearly 40, 12 to 15 hr days, Extra.Ordinary is finished. A big thanks to Andre Nutini ( andrenutini.com ) for joining the team and helping us slay the beast. We are currently having the discs produced and they’ll be available in early September.
I’m currently setting up an online ordering system so you’ll be able to buy the discs right here from the site. If your keen to put your name on one right now, just drop me your info on our general inquiry page and I’ll get in touch when they are here and put a copy aside for you.
I hate the term ” Green” and we aren’t claiming to be heroes saving the planet here, but for all you tree huggers, FYI – We are producing the DVD’s through a company which uses entirely eco – friendly materials such as recycled cardboard cases and earth friendly inks. If you were thinking you might buy one and were worried about the environmental effect hopefully I just eased you mind.
Want another reason you should buy a disc? I’ll give you two:)
1. Keeping in line with the “green” theme, we are donating to the enviro charity 1% to the planet. and 2. I had to take the entire summer off to make the movie and re-couping the production costs would be nice:) We’ll still be broke, but what the heck, life’s good and I got to teach my 2 year old the ins and outs of Final Cut Pro.
Check out the trailer for the flick again here. You can also get the low down about the film in the short form overview on the Action – Services page here. It’ll give you an insight into who’s in it and just what it’s all about.
Stay tuned for info on where to find the flick. We’ll have it dialed in a few days time.
Enjoy some photos from the winter. Here’s a selection of random stuff from from our 09′ season.
We Just discovered that Internet Explorer browers other the most current version ( IE8) will seriously wreck your viewing experience at DBFilms. So Upgrade to IE8 or better yet, stop using it all together and get Safari 4 or Firefox. They don’t mangle my site!
Thanks!
I’ve been rummaging around through old dusty hard drives and finding some real gems, which I am going to post over the coming weeks. Some classics from the early days of DBFilms. Some old teasers, and maybe even the full length version of Cold Lampin’! Plus, some of the better freeski reels from the last couple seasons and the Island lake Shoot out video from 2008 just to name a few!
Check out all the videos currently on rotation in my video player!
Back in 2006, Thom and I traveled to Chile for some surf and snow. We ended up falling in love with a little town called Pichi Lemu and spent 3 out of 4 weeks there. We shot a lot of video on our little Sony handy cam. I started a cut back in 2006, but oddly enough it never got finished. Finding these photos from that trip as inspired me to go back and do it. It’s not finished yet, but it will be up on the site in the near future. So make sure you come back to check it out.
In the meantime enjoy a few photos from the trip!

Joel Whalen by Rob Heule
Joel, Andre Nutini and I have been slaving away over the past month, consuming far to much caffeine and spending way to many hours in front of computer screens to make sure we get our recent production Extra.Ordinary. completed by August 7th. We are entering the film in several festivals including IF3 in Montreal and the Banff Mountain Film Festival.
We are excited to announce that our film has already confirmed a showing at Freshtival in Calgary in October. Stay tunes on the exact date and time for that showing and send us your good karma so we get picked for the finals at IF3!
A selection of photos from my earlier days. Late teens to early 20’s. Getting my feet wet.
I found several rolls of undeveloped black and white film recently and had no idea when they had been exposed and no idea what I would find on the them. I had prints made and man what a surprise. Most of them spanned the time that I spent in Norway and Denmark during 2005. Some of them were pretty neat so I shot them against some grass with my digi cam. Here are some of the best! I’ll be shooting the rest of them soon and there is some definite keepers. I’ll let you know when they are up!
Enjoy!
A few black and whites from my time in Norway and France. between 2004 and 2005. Lots more to come. Just gotta put the ol’ scanner to use here!
